Need to move my machines around

![]() 558 forum posts 28 photos | I need to lift and move my latest acquisition, an Elliott 10M shaper. I have a 1 tonne folding crane so that will do the job but I only have ratchet tie downs for my motorcycling activities and these are very long for going around my trailer so I don't consider them suitable. The seller delivered it to me using his crane and steel cables with eyelets and I would like to buy some of these or some with hooks. Ebay is not providing many options, only one vendor with not good feedback for 14m 3 tonne rated cables with hooks at each end. Anyone got suggestions as to what I should be searching for (name or better search terms) and where I could find one/some? Thanks John |

![]() 543 forum posts 31 photos | The Elliott 10M is from memory approx 400kg got mine onto the trailer for the 120 mile journey home with an engine hoist and some 3/4" nylon rope. At the other end I used my "Shaper Shifter" which is a home made weldment of steel pipes approx 6' tall and 28" wide this is set up with 2 pulleys to use an M-Mart ratchet to lift the Shaper, once lifted above 8" two timbers are inserted into the bottom of the device and the shaper lowered onto these thus removing the chance of it pendulum-ing. As its on H/D castors it's then simply a case of wheeling it around like a top heavy trolley. The Elliott is very top heavy and the "pendulum effect" when using an engine hoist can be enough to topple one over. if I might suggest that once raised you put a couple of stout planks/timbers across the legs of the hoist and lower (at least some) of the machines weight onto these. As to using wire strops this may damage the machines working surfaces, when slinging an Elliott 10M its done using the ram, from memory I think the Elliott book even shows rope being used.

http://www.theratchetshop.com/ Really good qualiy gear at decent prices, usualy no conection with them but use them all the while. Be careful on some of the ebay gear it's real flimsy. Just bought some new 1 tonne slings from these people in the link and they are tested to 7 tonnes, can't get better than that.
