Hi
I would appreciate some help with a problem with my clark 300m lathe,
When I started to turn a piece of metal this evening at quite a low speed
a rumbling sound came from the chuck area and the chuck almost stalled
setting the lathe at a very slow speed I was able to hold the stock bar in the chuck and stop the chuck moving but there was still a rattling noise coming from the headstock as if a gear or belt was slipping.. Before I have to strip the headstock
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what this might be.
Thanks in anticipation.
Trevor.

I have had the same, in my case the belt stripped it's teeth, I changed the sprocket and belt, fairly easy job. Best regards Pat

Yes the CL300, I get spares from Clarke or Machinemart and find them reasonable, best regards Pat

Checked the lathe tonight and thankfully it was just a loose drive belt, Re-tensioned
and now working fine..

It's worth taking the time to check the belt isn't rubbing, there are various screws that adjust the angle of the motor as well as the tension. A related problem I had was the plastic key in the middle of the toothed pulley stripped. I hand filed a groove to replace it and fitted a metal key.

I did check to make sure it wasnt rubbing but the motor does seem to be angled downward at the pulley end .
