ANY HINTS ON REMOVAL OF PETTYCOAT PIPE

3 forum posts | I need to remove the pettycoat pipe to access and remove the blown superheater on PV Baker on a loco loaned to our club. The drawing shows it to be inserted into a brass casting but no means of fixing is shown. The pipe is copper the casting brass, there are no signs of solder or grub screws. I have made up a stepped drift to fit pipe but am reluctant to give more than a sharp tap with 1lb hammer this had no effect. The smoke stack casting is riveted to the smoke box but heads are not visible on inside. There is a copper reinforcing ring which appears to be integral with petticoat pipe covering up where rivet heads would be Any hints would be appreciated. |
