Comparison between VMC and WM18

![]() 910 forum posts 197 photos | I am thinking of buying a new Warco milling machine, probably a VMC or WM18 when the Harrogate show is on.
If any member could advise me on any shortcoming on them I would be most grateful.
The VMC milll would need an additional spacer to increase the height above the table, does anybody supply them or will I have to make one?
WM18 mill has a variable speed motor are they reliable?
At the moment I have an old Warco round column mill thats seen better days.
Any comments welcome.

![]() 72 forum posts 103 photos | Have the much smaller Warco WM14 for over a year now, and still very pleased, no problems with it at all, made a few small mods such as shortening the table locking screws, adding a light and mounting for a DTI ~ just wish I'd got more workshop space for the WM16/18 |

103 forum posts | I have had a Warco WM16 for 5 years. The only (minor) problem is that the bellows protecting the vertical column detaches itself & exposes the slide ways. I have added DROs (cheapos but surprisingly accurate) which make using the machine much easier. I have found the Warco staff helpful. The accuracy is much better than one would expect for the price asked. I have not had to adjust the gibs, they are as supplied. But do check the micrometer dials. As supplied mine were calibrated to give 1.250 thou per division! Warco replaced them with the correct divisions without any quibling. MEW review (August 2009)? gave the WM18 a good write-up.
