634 forum posts 9 photos	Hi all,does anyone have any information about stripping chrome plating off steel parts.I have heard about using caustic soda/distilled water and "plating"it off using a 6V DC.power source and a steel electrode,but I can't find any reference to the dilution ratios.I am needing to remove chrome off some old motorcycle parts prior to re-plating with nickle. Thanks in advance pailo.

1723 forum posts	The way I was told it works Pailo is to set up a chrome plating bath and swop over the electrode connections, in effect reverse plating. Regards Ian.

247 forum posts 21 photos	Pailo, if you are having them replated, allbeit in nickel, I would have the platers do it. Hope you are using a recommended platers as there are some poor ones around, I had some plating (chrome) done on my old Triumph which looked good but take it out in the winter and it imediately started to rusty!

634 forum posts 9 photos	Thanks for the info,but not using a plating shop as I have my own nickel plating set-up but I need to know the caustic soda / water mix ratio so I can "reverse" plate the items. regards pailo.

I only ask because there is no reason you could not put Nickel on top of Chrome, after all if chroming is done properly you first Copper plate, then Nickel plate, then put the Chrome on top. So if you can Chrome on Nickel, why not Nickel on Chrome? chriStephens If your Chrome is typical of most old vehicles, ignore the above.
