I need to change the speed change belt on an ML10 and while I am at it, I may as well change the countershaft pulley too. These items are 66 and 166 on the Myford drawings, that come with the handbook.

The 166 countershaft pully is an A25 code V, U or W. The A25 bit is easy enough, being a 25" A section belt, what code V, U or W means, is baffling. The Z810 belt (item 66) which is in sore need of changing doesn't respond to my googling. Can anyone tell me what or where I should be looking?

Thanks,

Andrew.

Hi Adrew, have you tried Myford Ltd.

Regards Nick.

Hello Nick,

Yes I did try Myford. At £12.50 each, or £25 for the two belts, I decided that it was just a little too expensive! I can get the A25 belt from a reputable supplier for as little as £2.10, plus VAT.

Regards,

Andrew.

I had a look in my ML10 parts book, but don't have that lathe.

No.66 - A25 = 25" A section as you say
No.166 - M section 31.5"
Z section is similar to M section; M=10x5.5mm, but not all that common, whereas Z=10x6mm
31.5" = 800mm, so I guess your reference to Z810 is just a tad longer than 31.5"

There's quite a bit of further useful info on sites such as this one, regarding smooth or raw edges, cogged versus plain etc.

I changed these belts on an ML10 earlier this year. Just go on eBay and search, you will get them both for about £4 each. The company I bought from is in Coventry trading under the name 4Bearings on eBay. This service and the product quality was good.

I've bought satisfactorily from this outfit more than once, including belts for the ML7;

Hello all,

Thanks for the help and advice! What stymied me was I could find no reference to Z belts. If an M series belt is only 0.5 mm difference to a Z belt then problem solves.

I am now sorted for considerably less than half of £25, no doubt plus postage!

Thanks again,

Andrew.
