![]() 6 forum posts 7 photos | Hi, I'm new to traction engines I have just got a 1 1/2 allchin it need a bit of work it comes with most of the parts, I haven't got a clue where to start, or what half the bits are even called, I've done alot of research. I have the allchin book but can't really understand most of it, I have basic workshop tools but no special machinery and not really the money to buy any. It simple things like do I need to put anything on threads on when screwing stuff together, and things like what size fixtures and fitting and copper pipe to buy. Any help would be much appreciated as I'd love to run it on steam many thanks.

It will be worth it when you finish it though, good luck. Dave W |

1050 forum posts 56 photos | Doesn't the book contain drawings of all of the Allchin components? I've not seen it, but, as I remember, the two ME series describing the build, and which form the basis of the book. both show a full set of drawings together with very detailed advice on making and assembling the components. Admittedly, the full size drawings are nice to have but there's not a lot of change from £100 to buy them. From what can be seen in the pictures, the OP seems to have a fairly complete basic engine, with the exception of the gear-change mechanism which seems to need some machining.

2610 forum posts 312 photos | Hi Daniel Sounds like you could do with someone living close to you who knows these engines and would be willing to visit and describe what's required, they may even offer to machine any small parts needed. To get such help your location is needed, just a full postcode will help. Emgee |

Hi, yeah it is mainly complete just a few parts needs completing things like the brake and steering I'm not worried about as for the time being would only like to steam it on a bench |

Drawings from Reeves 2000 or Sarik Hobbies Before spending too much time and money on it I would join a club and get the boiler hydraulic tested, It looks like the engine has probably run so why was it being stripped down? maybe to rectify a leak. If you are only playing with it at home then do a test yourself. |

Thanks for the advice I think that's what I will do, I'm joining a local club who said they will be able to test it, then I will go from there. Expect lots of questions as this is my first traction engine. Cheers |
