I have an Oxy-Propane torch and was wondering if there is a correct hose size for it, my local supplier list two sizes 6mm and 10mm the 6mm states only Oxygen or Acetylene whilst the 10mm includes Propane, Oxygen and Acetylene.

Regards

Although my kit is Oxy Acetylene, I've always found 6mm hoses adequate for any heating or welding work, although I bought 10mm hoses on the last hose changeout simply because they were what was available.

Your seller's assumption in only supplying 10mm hoses for propane is probably that the buyer may well be doing heavy cutting. Often the 'lightweight' hoses have 1/4" BSP unions at the torch end, Whereas all the 'big bore' hoses I've come across have 3/8" BSP unions at both ends of the hoses, meaning that you need to keep an eye on which end have the non return valves installed.

As I understand it propane will attack the material used for acetylene hoses so you do need propane rated orange ones. When I got set up to braze bicycle frames I was advised to go for the lightest thinnest hoses possible as they make the torch easier to manipulate. I bought a set with 3mm bore from Noz- alls who I found to be very helpful: Nozalls MicroBore. I have never got close to running out of flow but I have never used them for cutting or with a big rosebud tip.

William.
