If this wasn’t so far away, and ‘collection in person’ … I would be avoiding mentioning it here.

Very useful looking design star

More an X-Y angle plate than a table, pity the horizontal surface is not tee slotted or similar as then it would be a lot more useful provided the vertical face did not get in the way.

Evidently not to your taste, Jason

Personally, I think it looks very versatile

… but ‘each to his own’

Indeed not really to my taste.

No sign of any handwheel engraving so you would need to sort something out to know how far it is moving in X&Y

Solidly built with good supporting dovetail ways but that is probably due to what looks like quite limited travel so you won't end up with large overhangs.

As I said holding anything to the horizontal surface would need modifications or a sub table which would eat into head room

Vertical face would further limit usable Y travel as any collet chuck etc would need to be kept clear of that when working on items held to the horizontal surface

Very limited as to where you can get clamps to hold it down

No sign of gib strips to take up any wear if it's had a hard life

So personally can't see much that would make me want to buy it. What were the features that attracted you to it Michael?

.

Massive construction

Compact ‘envelope’

Impeccable pedigree

Versatility [we obviously differ there]

Horizontal and Vertical reference planes built-in

.

If it wasn’t about 400km each way to collect it, I would have made an offer already.

There were two Karger lathes at the firm I served my time with ( in the 70's), the 1950's ones in the Lathes photographs, although the stands were slightly different, despite having been worked very hard for many years they were lovely machines to use, and obviously built to a high standard. I used to look at these and the similar size Holbrook, also of a high build standard, and wonder if there was a little copying went on. If I had a choice at the time I would always use one of these older lathes rather than the new Colchester Triumph's.

If the vendor is prepared to work with a courier you could try entering the ebay item number into Shiply and see what quotes arrive,

Thanks, Bill … I have already approached the Seller, and have a recently-used courier in mind

It was Jason’s contempt for it that persuaded me to try my luck laugh devil

I was trying to get my head around this one
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165503950404

Rotary sounds odd, slides one way on inverted triangular ways, like my Herbert Junior, and seems to have some sort of a vernier on the Y travel

.

That does look novel

I wonder if there is a relatively small worm-wheel that rotates just that central plug ?

… Perhaps you should buy it, and do a write-up for MEW
