4 forum posts | Hello, I'm new to this forum. I'm a retired mechanical engineer. My great-grandfather, my grandfather, my father, myself and my son did mechanical engineering at Delft University. It may not be really a very important profession but running in the family greatly facilitates communication between the generations. I worked as works engineer and managing engineer in the Netherlands and finally as consulting engineer for machine shops across the world. Upon retirement we relocated to the family-farm in the country where I had finally enough space for a nice workshop in the open farm-shed: enclosed area 4x10 meter in the back, covered area 5x11 meter. Wood stove driving floor heating, Schaublin 102 VM lathe, Myford Super Seven Lathe, Taig lathe, Aciera F3 mill, Wabeco F1210 mill, Gotha Tool grinder, Tormek Wet Grinder, SOLID Pillar Drill, Nabertherm programmable Heating Furnace up to 1200 degrees Celsius. I'm finding that actually making something is quite different from talking about it as I did for 40 years. |

4 forum posts | Thanks for the welcoming words. Yes, I'm aware of the fine forum of Stoomgroep Holland. Actually I'm more into tooling and Horology. As a member of the 'Klokkengroep 's-Hertogenbosch' I cannot resist the urge to point out our website www.klokkenbouwen.nl , on which you may find many nice examples of the clocks our members make! |

7227 forum posts 21 photos | Peter, Welcome. Engineers are VERY important. DON'T be shy, Be proud to come from a family tradition of Engineering! You can make, and repair things that many others cannot! Without Engineers we would not have the world as we know it today. Ploughing would still be by forcing a deer antler through the soil, living in caves, wearing animal skins, and wading across rivers Engineers brought us textiles, railways, motor vehicles and aircraft. (The list is almost endless! ) Howard |

Looking round the museum attached to the mechanical enegineering department I found a little lathe (Lorch). Did you ever play cricket at university? JA |

Perhaps earlier than your time, my first visit to Holland was for ten days in late ‘62 when the autumn colours were at their best, photographically speaking. Would KSPLD (Koninklijke/Shell plastics laboratorium delft), ring any bells? Cheers, Sam |
