One for the hive mind.
Over here in Buxton we have a market a couple of days a week, where one of the traders sells various bric-a-brac.
Some I buy, some I try and help him identify, but this one has me stumped.
Not the best of photos as they were grab shots on my phone.
We know KLG were a spark plug maker, and this seems to tally with the ceramic material from which this is made.
It's about the same size as a spark plug, but with no metallic parts.
There is a through hole of about 3mm/1/8" as though a wire might pass through to some sort of (absent) metallic cap.
The box is plain, with no lettering of pictures, and seems original.

Looks like a bottle opener? One of those freebie corporate giveaways?

You are correct. See near the bottom of this page.

I imagine the point of the corporate giveaway was to show that Hylumina was much less brittle than porcelain or (then?) standard high voltage insulation ceramics and had significant shear strength.

Porcelain or standard ceramics would almost certainly break long before the bottle top came off.

I bought a box of ten turning inserts very cheaply on ebay and made a holder for them. They look like square white tablets, about 10mm per side and 4mm thick, much lighter than carbide. The edges are blunt, but they certainly have no trouble turning fully hardened HSS but you have to keep clear of the red hot sparks.

It looks well made and strong enough to open a bottle of Guinness... or two.

It's one of those little workshop oddities I'm going to look out for!

Cheers for that, we both thought it looked like one, but assumed the material would be too brittle.
