26 forum posts 28 photos | Hi, I've been trying to post details of an automatic oiling system to replace drip oilers. I've prepared a long post including many photos of the build and associated software, but I'm unable to post it due to a restriction on the number of characters in one post. For my sins the build description runs to in excess of 18,000 characters and, as far as I can gather, the maximum per post is in the region of 2800. Is there some facility where I can email the text to an administrator for vetting who can then override the limit? Thanks in advance. |

3293 forum posts 112 photos | Brevity is the soul of wit, so they say. Of wisdom too. So some tips that may help you: I've sometimes prepared long texts in MS 'Word' (which has a word and character counter) then copied the text to the thread. Ask yourself.... - What are you describing? The system or its every component? - What do the photos show? Completed parts or detail machining? - What is your aim? To suggest a lubrication system (with computer control??) in general, or to show your specific system? - For Whom? Beginners needing step-by-step help, or reasonably experienced model-engineers? - Would the work be better offered as a constructional series to ME or MEW - the latter perhaps more appropriate? Really, a few carefully-chosen photos and brief notes on pipe sizes, fittings etc. should be sufficient to help others wishing to build their own version, remembering their possibly quite different machine-tools and facilities from yours. Reserve deeper detailing for the more complicated, specific things built for it, such as any pump, filter, etc. You mention software. I am not sure where that is needed in what I take to be a machine-tool oiling system, but a programme listing might be better as an appendix, second article or offered directly by e-post. |

865 forum posts 12 photos | Sounds like something that would be more appropriate to an article in MEW. Be aware that there was an article on a one-shot lubrication system (for Myford lathes but adaptable to others) in MEW-161. |

Just make several posts in your thread? would this be a problem? The thought hadn't escaped me, it just didn't seem a very elegant way of going about things. |

I can see it now the first reply will quote your post with all that text and the 28 images As for posting it here better broken down into parts much like I do for an engine build. |

26 forum posts 28 photos | OK, multiple posts it is. If the project is considered to have sufficient merit to appear in MEW then that would be fine. |
