Reading dials

51 forum posts | Morning all could anyone tell me what increments are used on Sieg X1 mill X and Y table feed screws? From what I’ve seen, it looks like the dials are marked in .1mm divisions, but it looks like they’re stated on a plate to be 0.025? Can anyone please confirm what thread the feed screw is and what the actual measurements are on the dials?
Thanks Mike |

51 forum posts | Thanks. what about the pitch of the feedscrews? And the apparently conflicting information of the index increments being 0.025? Surely they should be 0.1 increments? Mike |

There is no conflict there are 80 divisions of 0.025 so as per the link 80 x 0.025 = 2nn per turn 0.025mm increments will allow for more accurate positioning than 0.1mm divisions. Machine's handwheels are not really big enough to get 0.01mm divisions but should be possible to make up a bigger ring if needed to slip over the existing. The only thing that I don't like about them is that they number the divisions and have grouped them in multiples of 5 and 10 rather than showing the actual distance represented. Would be nicer if every eighth one were dimensioned 0.2, 0.4, 0.6.............1.8, 0. If it were my machine I would seriously consider buying the dials for a SX2.7 and making a simple sleeve so they could be fitted over the ones of the X2 that way you get 100 divisions each 0.02mm and numbered to represent distance not number of divisions.
