Ml7 toolpost

Hi there,does anyone know the dimensions of the base of the tool post stud on a ml7,as in the part that goes up into the topslide not the shaft or thread size.Im fitting a quick change toolpost and the stud is different,so am going to turn up a base to press into the bottom of topslide threaded to suit new stud,if anyone knows the diameter would save me having to take it apart and back together before I make it!

I have just measured the flange of a similar part at 0.8935" diameter. The flange is 0.220" thick.

I think these studs are a light press fit as standard but am doubtful about the idea of making it by "dead reckoning".

Ok chap,when you say similar part,it wasn't an ml7 toolpost stud then?,Ill probably take it apart and have a look just thought someone might no actual size.

ML7 tool post base measurements of mine are 0.8735" x 0.192" thickness. The dowel pin is 0.081" diameter.

It is on a PCD of 0.3135" on mine, so nominally 5/16" (0.3125). The pin height is 0.2187" or about 5.5mm-

This is a 1949 model, the dowel pin size is wire/number size 46. Later Myfords may have different size pin.

Not sure if this is relevant but on my S7 the hole in the QCTP is much larger than the stud in the topslide.

The kit included a top hat washer

This works very will, no movement of the QCTP when tightened down.

If your new toolpost came with a 10mm stud then the 7/16" diameter to fit the Myford ends up quite thin after being tapped M10 so it's usual to make a complete new stud or buy one along these lines
