Hi, My name is Dean Manderson and I live at Clare in country South Australia.

I am well into the build of a 3" Allchin Royal Chester and am a member of the Allchin Builders Group. My workshop consists of a Colchester student six and a RF30 Drill/Mill (Chinese). I am a novice builder/machinist. Fortunately a couple of the members in our group are expert toolmakers and are helping me greatly.

Cheers,

Welcome!

You will find plenty of like minds on here. Some on the same continent, but that does not mean close by!

Good Luck with the project.

How long do you think before steaming?

Howard

Thanks for the welcomes. Have just steamed it but there is a problem with steam bypassing somewhere. Need to check the ring as all else seems to be OK. Time is an issue as I am still building our earth covered house. Will post some photos soon.

Cheers

Dean

Hi Dean, Welcome to the forum.

I live in Sydney and have a 6" Ruston Proctor engine. Not sure if you already know that the National Ausrtalian model traction engine rally has been scheduled for the 16 and 17th October this year at Echuka. (cancelled for 2020 because of Covid) I have just received an official invitation from the Campaspe Vally Miniature Railway who is hosting the event. Hope to see you there.

Paul.

Hi Paul,

Yes I hope to be at Echuca. I am in the Clare Valley Model Engineers and I am organising the 2022 rally for here at Clare. I better be in Echuca to answer any questions and put in a plug for us.

Dean

2 day drive !!! Dang that makes my 1 to 4 hour drives to shows in the UK ( Covid allowing) pale into insignificance.

regards

Yes this is Australia. I live in a rural area 2 hours from Adelaide (capital of South Australia.) I have driven to Adelaide and back twice in the same day!! 200 miles each round trip. I often go to meetings one hour or more away. And I live in the more settled part of the state.

Cheers
