Hi there, I have a couple questions regarding the chucks that are sold for the proxxon 230 lathes.

I have a Toyo ML 210 lathe, but only have the three jaw chuck for my lathe. I am looking to get a 4 jaw, and maybe a collet chuck for my machine, but it is near impossible to get the Toyo stuff. There is a korean company called Manix, that makes identical stuff to the Toyo stuff, but I have not been able to find a source for these parts either.

I read somewhere on a forum once, and only once, that the proxxon 230 stuff fits the Toyo ML 210 lathes. I am really interested in getting a 4 jaw for my lathe, even if it's going to cost well over 200USD. for a 3 inch chuck.

The chucks on the TOYO ML 210 are not threaded on, the register onto a cylindrical portion off the spindle, and then are fastened via either 3 or 4 m4 bolts, depending on if youre using the 3 jaw or 4 jaw, there is a hole pattern for both 3 or 4 bolts.

The proxxon lathes chucks are the same way, i think, but i don't know for sure.
It doenst seem possible to find a drawing of the proxxon chucks online to confirm this.
But reading this on the proxxon site, regarding the dividing attachment, which apparently fits the same chucks as the 230 lathe, they claim it's a taper
?! that the chuck will register on to?

If anyone could confirm if the register for the chuck is cylindrical in nature, and its diameter, this would be of huge help. Of it anyone knows that the chucks between the proxxon 230 and the Toyo ML 210 are truly compatible. Thank you very much!

The boss on the end of the PD230 spindle is about 22.04mm in diameter and protrudes about 7mm. (At least on my model which dates back to 2006.)

PS. Don´t confuse the PD230 and PD250, I'm not sure their chucks etc. are interchangeable.

Dick.

It's possible it may have a small form of a DIN spindle nose with a slight approx 7deg taper to the short spigot as found on other German machines such as Emco.

If there is a taper it is very slight, I measure the dia. at 22.04-22.10mm with the digital calipers. It´s too tight to get my little micrometer in. Eyeballing it I would say there is no taper.

My Toyo ML-1 measures 21.99mm. The Proxxon PD230E chucks fit it from what I have gathered. The ML-210 is the same as the ML-1 and the Proxxon as far as I know. About to buy the Proxxon three jaw and maybe the four Jaw for my ML-1 soon.

I might add there is no taper to my Toyo spindle that I can see.

Also PD250 lathes and parts are different to Ml-1, ML-210 and PD230E.

I've now got the Proxxon three jaw chuck. I need to take about half a thou out of the chuck register to get it to fit the Toyo spindle.

Thanks for this thread!

I happen to be on the exact same quest; recently got hold of a Toyo ML210 with milling attachment.

Did you make it work in the end? Are the four holes for attachment in the right position?

Best Regards

Anders

Good luck finding a 24030 Proxxon Chuck anywhere now. Even the 24028 three jaw seems to be unavailable now. Maybe with an adapter plate the 24036 can be made to fit. It's register is 40mm with I think a PCD of 34mm.

Thanks, Neville.

I sloppily misintepreted your comment above as regarding the four-jaw, but now realise that it was about the three-jaw. On the other hand, hope rises that if the PCD of the three holes on the PD230-chuck (24028?) are the same as on the PD210/ML210, then maybe the PCD for the four holes in the Toyos spindle are also the same as on the 24030. (If that one can be found, that is...)

Also, I hadn't found the later thread, where you had given up on finding a 24030 and state that "Mounting register for the Proxxon Chuck is 40mm and PCD is 34mm. Toyo spindle is a register of 22mm and a PCD 0f 35mm."

Bad news, but good to know.

If I find any 24030s left on a shelf somewhere, I'll let you know.

The three jaw 24028 fits the Toyo very well so I am assuming the 24030 should have the correct register and PCD as well. I did get a 24036 but yet to work out how to adapt that, but it should not be too difficult. If you find more than one 24030 available let me know as I would prefer that over the 24036.

Thanks

Nev.

Thanks!

Unfortunately no luck. A Swedish store "HAB" apparently had them on stock ("orderable", but that turned out to be false.

Ome roll lasts a lifetime I'd presume, and has worked great so far. (You easily melt the ends together with a soldering iron.)

Hi - Ive got an old Toyo ML1 and also trying to get hold of a 4 jaw chuck. The Proxxon 24030 seems my best bet but can't find one online. Even contacted Proxxon in Germany. If anyone knows of a supplier or has one available for sale - be great to hear from you. Im not quite at the level to machine a back plate. Thanks Clifton

I am not sure if this is a legitimate website or not.

Hi thanks - the site looks legitimate but the price works out at about £245 plus delivery. Amazed at how few second hand Proxxon 24030 chucks are out there.
