send me a pm and I'll forward the code and drawing. The drawing is pretty basic, only enough for me to make it, but it will give you the idea. Will need fine tuning to suit whatever lathe you have

Very interesting article and looks like not too difficult as a first proper Arduino project. Could I also request a copy of the drawing and the code., Many thanks Derrick

Duncan, I'd be interested as well. Do you think it is possible to hook up to a Sino DRO?

Regards, Matt

Hi - Could you also send a copy to me. Looks to be an ideal starter project. Thank you

I've sent details to Roy Oxley and Michael Gilligan. Others who have requested via pm or above need to send me their email address by pm (click on 'message member' ) . I've tried to send it to Emgee, but it wouldn't accept the email address.

Would it connect to a Sino? Most scales increment on 0.005mm resolution, so you'd need to arrange 200 edges per mm travel of tailstock. My set up gives 1600 edges for 0.3", which is 209.973 edges per mm. However you could change the belt drive ratio gear it up, or the software could be arranged to do a conversion, but it would be a bit involved. Belt ratio would depend on leadscrew pitch, if you had a metric pitch it might work out easier

edit to get rid of smiley,

If you're going to fire files about then try and keep them under 20MB

For the benefit of anyone else who uses an iOS device for their eMail :

Duncan’s nicely annotated code < TailDRO_4.ino > opens tidily in an App called DraftPad
