Hi have a CVA !A series and I believe the correct travelling steady. But there

are no tapped holes or dowels in the cross slide to bolt in on. Anybody there

with one fitted or experiences fitting one photo appreciated,

Thanks

Hi George have you looked at lathes.co.uk as there is a couple of pictures on there and it looks like they are fastened into a T slot on the top slide.

It would be unworkable to have tapped holes in the cross-slide for a travelling steady as it would be difficult to centre when setting up and would change position every time you put on a cut.

The mounting points will be in the saddle of the machine.

As David says, look on the lathes site: the one picture there that shows the travelling steady has it bolted to the tailstock side of the saddle - it spans over the cross slide.

Maybe also look at pictures of the Monarch 10ee for guidance as the CVA has some similarities to that machine.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replys ( I meant saddle !) have been to Tony' s site, The single arm follower if that what it is on

the earlier machine round machine is on the side of the saddle.. The later photos series 1A-3 further down the pages show what I have . I have the parts list PD1182 Original manual D M Cole and Sons the Dorking address It's fixed by four bolts two either side or two could be dowels but parts manual indicates bolts. Just wondered if these lathes only came out of the factory set up only for the acessories bought at the time of purchase?

Somebody must have a travelling steady in action??,

Any one need a copy of the parts manual can do at cost.

Thanks for the replys George.//

PS Can I upload pic's ?

On mine there are a pair of hole on the chuck side and a pair on the tail stock side:

I have no travelling steady, only the fixed one.

Does that mean you have a travelling steady for sale then?

Bit late here, but I've emailed George directly with positions & dimensions of holes.

Here's mine in-situ with the top-slide removed for clarity:

And note

(a) if yours is a short, 20" BC bed CVA (a mk1 rather than a 1A) the travelling steady is very different.

(b) if, like Dave S, you have a DRO scale here, the steady probably won't fit, without surgery!

Hope this helps.

Martin.
