![]() 2312 forum posts 112 photos | Hello Brian (what a good name you have), I once needed to make a length of 1/4" X 16 tpi 2 start for the steering on a Clayton Steam Waggon. I made it out of silver steel, slightly longer that needed and made the end into a tap, hardened and tempered and cut off after being used to tap the bronze nut. Brian |

![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | Similar here when I needed it for the Fowler brake screw, I just ground up a 1/32" wide tool and screw cut it on the lathe and while the tool was in place cut another from silversteel which was then made into a tap. If I did it again I would make the tap longer. |
