Help needed - Video editing software for free.

Although I bought my editor (several years ago), I can see that there are several that can be down loaded for free.

To help a friend, I'd appreciate member's comments about their preferences.

I suppose it rather depends on how fancy the project will be. For the simple editing I use then Windows in-built movie maker does the job.

Recently finding my Serif movieplus had issues' I downloaded Kdenlive which is better known by linux user's some windows user's had reported issues but it works OK for me. It's free so you have nothing to loose by giving it a try.

Several years ago, I downloaded AVS4You video editor, which was distributed free at the time. A number of computer changes later, I loaded it onto my new Windows 10 machine and it now requires me to pay a licence fee. Unwilling to pay up, I've downloaded Kdenlive as per Harry's post. Haven't used it in anger, yet, but I'd be hard pushed to say there was a difference between it and the AVS offering. Like Harry said - it's free, so you have nothing to lose.

I've just started using *OpenShot* which is totally free and does everything I need - so far.

Having gone ‘A about F’, it was much easier than I thought.

My friend’s laptop has Windows 10 and the video editor already installed.

Many of the video editors need a fast computer with lots of memory to render video, otherwise it is very slow.

I've been using Cyberlink Power Director for the last 10 years + and happy with it. Tried others but not as good. It rates well and works on my old 32 bit computer. (very fast on a 64 bit). It's moderately priced and if you do a lot of editing is well worth the cost.

It will edit most video formats including MP4 and export to most others. Video renders can be done to different formats and pixel sizes. (HD, Standard definition, for playing on a phone or sending to Facebook, etc). Create picture in picture video or voom into a small area to fill the screen.

Lots of on line tutorials, help and hundreds of special effects, titles, themes, fades, etc to download from their web site if you have a registered copy.  I receive an email from Cyberlink every month with links to their latest video titles, fades, special effects, etc to download free.

Hi, I use "Open Shot Video Editor", simple interface and quite powerful.

Glad this thread came up as I was looking for a video editor and I downloaded the free Open Shot. I have had a play and I,m very impressed, even I can understand it, very user friendly I think. The youtube tutorials (by Open Shot) are excellent and get you through the basics really quickly.
