Just introducing myself.. my name's Jonathan, from Yorkshire.

I've done some general manual machining in past manufacturing work, and do a bit in my spare time - mostly connected to watch repair.

Hi Jonathan - This really is an excellent Forum with loads of experienced machinists and hobbyists contributing.

I've sought advice on a few things and I am always amazed by the number of people willing to help.

BTW I live near Tadcaster, North Yorkshire.

Hello Jonathan and welcome. I'm a bit further South from you, in Derbyshire.

Hello chaps,

I didn't want to say much about my location as there's always the chance I'll post the occasional machinery picture and it's a public forum, but suffice to say Brian H isn't so far away.. I remember a BHI branch tour of a clockmakers workshop in Derbyshire a number of years ago.

Generally I frequent an American machinist forum but this site usually has information on most matters too.

Hi Jonathan,

A warm welcome from to the forum from sunny salubrious Skegness.

I too was worried about security when I joined, but I found that if you go to Settings->My Profile you can set a Nickname. Then from then on people will only see the nickname not your real name.

Welcome Jonathan,

In the depths of model engineering history some people funded their hobby by turning balance staffs and other such watch repairs!

Hello Adrian and Neil,

The watch repair is the route I'd eventually like to go down, I only do it for myself at present.

Several people here also frequent HSM and even PM so you occasionally see the same post or to[pic mirrored on another site. A few even manage to get the same username on multiple sites.
