I’ve just purchased a MT4-ER32 chuck for my Warco 250 lathe ...it’s got a 3thou runout on the collet taper which I find pretty poor for a tool designed for accurate work..

.The morse taper in the lathe spindle has almost no runout and the morse taper on the chuck body where it sticks out from the spindle reads the same.....the outer body of the chuck reads the same as the collet taper..3thou runout...

It’s being returned to the seller,

my question is...Where can I buy one that is guaranteed to be accurate?

cheers

That is bad, I bought a cheap er25 on an R8 shank and it had 0.002" runout, but kept it. Later I bought another cheapie from another ebay source and it is better than 0.0004". Of course, R8 shank ones are much easier to get than MT4, but you could try your luck with another vendor, I notice ARC have all the sizes except MT4, but there are two on ebay for drawbars. RDG Tools have them.

Hi John,

Several years ago I bought a Chinese MT 3 ER-32 chuck that I can use both on my small lathe and in the milling machine. The run out on the inner taper of the ER part of mine is slightly less than 0.01mm, so the run out on your chuck is bad and should be returned.

It’s best if you can get a flange mount chuck for your lathe if you can. This means you can pass long stock right through the chuck and head stock spindle. This is the type of thing:

That’s exactly what I’m doing Thor...

im heading that way Vic...I just fancied the morse tapered one for ease of use, .. up finding a good one is not easy..very few uk suppliers have them, and those that do are quite expensive...you get what you pay for..

I’ve got a number of ER 32 Chucks. Flange for the MW lathe, MT3 for the mill and MT2 for the WW lathe.
