The Tommy bar did come with a hex on one end…I have one from new and it has the hex for the adjusting screws…

Itis actually shown in use in the instruction manual

The brass ones are ok for guns, but not so good for removing rust

The cheap spiral brush sets on EBay are good value…stainless, brass and nylon in various sizes…

similar to the one’s previously mentioned, but much cheaper

Thread: Milling cutter insert identification
05/03/2022 18:18:54

I’m trying to find any information regarding the insert codes..there’s lots of different ones. There looks to be lots available, but with a different code after the R215.44…obviously for different applications

05/03/2022 16:19:42

Already tried Google..lots of R215.44 stuff,but no relevant information…

Ive emailed Sandvik…

Hi, I need help identifying the inserts available for a Sandvik Coromant cutter I have. It has 3 inserts.

written on the side of the cutter is.

R215.44-40A32-15CL.

I’ve looked on Sandvik’s site, but couldn’t find any relevant information.

it doesn’t seem as straight forward as identifying lathe tool inserts.

cheers John

Thread: Welding cast iron vice
27/01/2022 16:05:57

Thanks everyone for your ideas..

David, yes I’ve used the plugging method before with excellent success, but this is a cluster of holes that extend to the corner of the casting.

is it Sifbronze number one that you used?…does the finished repair match the cast iron colour, giving an invisible repair, which I’d like, or is it more of a brass colour?

cheers John

I have a few drill holes to fill, and a separate cast iron item that is cracked..I was hoping to grind open the crack and fill..

21/01/2022 20:47:21

Has anyone any experience using 55%silver solder for brazing cast iron?…Youtyhas a few videos using this..

21/01/2022 18:36:18

Part of the damage is on a corner, so yes it is structural as in that JB weld wouldn’t hold up to knocks etc..

cheers

Hi, I’m restoring an old Wilson Turret vice, and would like advice on the best/easiest way to fill a few drill holes in the cast iron vice base. Would it be possible to mig or TIG filler into the holes, or would brazing using one of the modern multi use filler rods be the way to go?

THANKS..

Nice work..I’m considering doing the same, when I get some experience at thread cutting…I’m still on the steep learning curve…

A bit of information

live found these machines use a variety of collets. The Warco uses L20 collets, which are quite expensive and not readily available…

AliExpress sell a set of 17 metric “U2” as they call them L20 collets for approximately £100 delivered to the uk

Thread: Cross slide adjustment?
01/01/2021 21:53:35

There should be 4 gib screws...if you can’t see them, then they have used the threaded holes to mount the dro, which. Is quite odd..you need to remove the dro to see what’s been done..you may need to re Mount the dro by making additional threaded holes

Thread: Question about knurling wheels
23/12/2020 11:49:01

The Jones & Shipman tools use 1/4”

Yes 7/32 does seem an odd size...maybe so you could only use wheels supplied by Marlco🙄
