It was only when I brought 1" BSW dome nuts back from the railway to wrench-tap at home that the comparison arose.

I'd been doing them down at the yard with Rocol RTD, but used the Macc product when I did it in my shed.

It made the job distinctly smoother and easier, enough to deserve a plug on here, I thought. Because it's a fluid rather than a thickish grease, it made it easier to clear the chips from a blind hole with a vacuum cleaner, too. Also good for keeping down chatter on wide radius form tools, run slowly.

Worth a try.

Thanks for the tip.

RTD is, of course, also available as a fairly viscous liquid.

I may try the Macc product when (and if) I exhaust my Rocol!

Ah, I was vaguely aware they did more than one RTD product from doing some work on Rocol's MRP/stock control system back in the 90s, but I'd guessed (wrongly) they were just different packaging quantities. The query was to do with Lot record control, so it would probably have been outside my remit to look at their Bills of Materials... smiley

Mick B1:

There is a slightly similar situation with their handy but expensive aerosol slideway lubricant which is also sold more economically (as X5) in conventional containers.
