I'm after a set of outside jaws for my Pratt 1213 160mm chuck. For the price of original parts I can buy a new (not original) chuck and back plate. Suggestions?

Cheers

Bob

I notice the Rotagrip price is £130.56 for the hard outside, could you get a set of the soft jaws and modify them to do the job, the EK16 are £31.63 a set.

Try Home and Workshop, I think they keep quite a few used sets.

Square Peg!

I might just have some N O S, still in original wrapping, that I was given by a friend. Am sure that they are for a 160mm chuck.

I'll go and have a look, later, to see if they are inside or outside jaws.

Watch this space.

Square Peg, what is you location ? I have a set here (if I look hard enough) I bought a new chuck when I could not afford a new set of standard jaws. The old chuck is still in the workshop, with all the variations on chucks you would need to try for fit.

Sorry!

Having looked, and unwrapped one set, that there are 5 sets of hard INSIDE jaws, for a 160 mm 3 Jaw Chuck,

Pratt Burnerd part No. 2210 -17603

Close but no cigar! Thanks for looking. Home and Workshop have a set for a reasonable price so I'll have to bit the bullet. What's really annoying though is that I have 2 of the jaws, the third was missing when I bought the lathe.

I have an original 4" pratt 3 jaw chuck on my ml7 and I wanted outside jaws. some googling and EB gave me serious headache. there are hundreds of different catalog nos http://www.rotagriponline.com/datasheets/Pratt/PrattChuckSpares.pdf

AFAIK you really need the exact match otherwise the jaws may not fit and be a waste of money given that the asking price for spare is 50% of a new chuck with 2 sets of jaws. Not worth the risk as you cant always try it first with EB sellers.crook

Measure the existing jaws and fill in the chart, check your sizes against any new suppliers sizes. some sizes are critical, others not so important, so Jaw width/thickness, Scroll, and the groove must be the same. The steps in the jaws are not critical nor is the overall length::: ...........So,      BDEh
