Thanks for the replies, I think I may have a go at making one if I can't find one to buy...

Is it a Harrison L5 or L5a ? If so pretty sure iv’e got a genuine Harrison taper turning attachment tucked away somewhere.

It's a new fangled 140...

Unless im misunderstanding the problem, why not just make a taper turning attachment ?

Cuz I've got no idea how they work!

I often need to clean up tapered tools for jewelers and silversmiths and am limited by the 3" of travel on my topslide. I was wondering if making a longer top slide was a viable solution. I was thinking of powering the slide by using a small 3-phase motor and VFD. It seems simple enough but was wondering why nobody seems to use that method.

Thread: Outside jaws for Pratt 160mm 3 jaw chuck

Close but no cigar! Thanks for looking. Home and Workshop have a set for a reasonable price so I'll have to bit the bullet. What's really annoying though is that I have 2 of the jaws, the third was missing when I bought the lathe.

I have a top of the range rolling mill but i'm limited by its max opening of 6mm so I may make a bigger one. I like your punch jig, i may copy that idea but modify it to work under a fly press, one of my fave workshop tools.

Hi, I'm not a model maker but joined the forum anyway as it contains many fellow metal workers who I can learn from. I am a toolmaker who makes new tools for silversmiths and tinsmiths e.g. planishing stakes, snarling irons etc. I use my lathes, mills etc to make tooling for my homemade hydraulic press.

Thanks for looking Howard.

Hi Chris, I'm in north Wales...

17/03/2020 11:35:34

I'm after a set of outside jaws for my Pratt 1213 160mm chuck. For the price of original parts I can buy a new (not original) chuck and back plate. Suggestions?

Cheers

Bob
