Hello,

I joined because I’m considering building the Kittiwake. I bought the castings 30/40 years ago. I’ve subscribed to ME for years but dropped out a while back.

Ive built a number of gas engines and a locomotive. My interest for years was small magnetos. I spent a year in the UK and spent as much time as I could with Bill Linfield of Carterton. Since then I’ve made many mags and some advancements esp using rare earth magnets. One engine I built was the Hermes with a magneto, it is one of my favorites to run at shows.

My shop is fairly complete with a Myford Super 7, a Clausing and Monarch lathe. Bridgeport mill and usual accessories.

Dont have any burning questions at this point unless someone has built the Kittiwake, 15cc, and has suggestions on improving the design. I do have the ME write up by Westbury.

Also considering the Wyvern and converting to hit and miss.

may attach a photo later if not too hard. Where are instructions on how to do so?

John

Hello John and welcome from almost the centre (center) of England.

To add photos you need to start an album. See the green & black banners at the start of this page. You can add photos to your album and you can add albums for different subjects.

Then you want to add a photo to a post, you go to the relevant album to select and add the photo.

Please come back if you get into problems, there are people much better at it than me.

Brian

Welcome John, I take it that it was one of your mags that was featured in Model Engine Builder Magazine a few years back?

Hi John, welcome, posting photos is very easy, even I have managed it.

Yes I wrote an article on high tension mags in the. MEB a few years ago. A good friend of mine and real electronics guy improved on my design and wrote an article about that plus an article on a low tension mag buildin

My most recent mag was a low tension, oscillating mag on a Red Wing. It is kind of like a Webster and works surprisingly well. In spite of the articles and attendance at many shows touting magnetos perhaps only a couple people have attempted building a mag. I think it’s a shame, we build accurate models down to the finest detail but when it comes to the ignition we choose a motorcycle coil/battery or a modern CDI.

No I’m afraid I had other commitments and missed it. Hopefully there will be other opportunities.
