general.jpgbest front.jpgI am trying to get drawings and help to restore this clock made by my father in the 1990's. Perhaps someone will recognize it from the motion parts. It has not run for several years and needs resetting and the verge wear corrected otherwise it is in great condition.

Was this featured in a past ME's (he had every copy!) or maybe other publication?

Interesting that there are only five bells on the rack ... that should help narrow-down the search.

I think it is "A Spring Driven Fusee Striking and Repeating Bracket Clock" by C. Reeve published in edn.s 3414,3415,3417,3418,3419 of Model Engineering in 1971. bit scant on detail.

Take the point about the 5 bells but perhaps it has a different chime (Smoke on the water instead of a conventional Westminster chime)?

Dick,

I think you may be correct

Haven't found a decent photo of one yet, but there is reference to one exhibited by Mr. L Sowerby, in JMW's review here: **LINK** on p272

?? Westminster only has 4 notes + perhaps a deeper one for hours

Only a couple of photos, but here is the Claude Reeve verge clock, for comparison: **LINK**

Yes, that's the one, thank you.

How do i go about finding back copies of the ME.

I am a subscriber but I think only a few back copies are available through them.

Took a leap of faith and clock is split open now as part of broken wire had got itself in the Fusee wheel.

Which part of the instructions for the build are you interested in? The whole article spread over 6 editions, including the building of the case, only stretches to 21 pages and is a bit scant on detail sometimes.

bea890aa-01d1-4afd-bdb1-f4b973eaf373.jpegI don’t need construction details but any final setting and adjustment information and a picture/drawing of the finished front plate showing the striking wheels and arms. My problem is to put the pieces together and lining up the mechanisms.

Perhaps that is in the last article. In addition maybe the first paragraphs give some history of the design?

Very grateful for the help so far, wonderful to have identified it.

As I said, the article is scant on detail, I think you assemble it, get it chiming and set the hands accordingly! Perhaps there is someone out there with more experience? Sending a PM.

I am interested in building this Bracket Clock by Mr. Reeve.

Can anyone suggest where I might purchase copies of the articles from editions 3414,3415,3417,3418, and 3419 of Model Engineering in 1971?

Thank you.

Phil, thank you, sir.

Ordered them all on ebay.

Looking forward to building Mr. Reeve's Bracket clock.

I've built W.R. Smith's five clocks but nothing with a striking mechanism.

My goal is ultimately to build Mr. Reeve's Chiming Grandfather Clock but his Bracket Clock looks to be a good design to gain experience.

Are are you aware of any support groups for Mr. Reeve's clocks?

Thank you, again.

Richard, it may be of interest to you that John Wilding re-visited Claude B Reeve's musical clock. I remember seeing one of the articles somewhere between 2000 and 2010. Sorry cannot be more precise but a good bet that somebody on here can point you to what appeared to be a series.

Richard,
It's the only copy I have from that period which was due for recycling.

The Smoke on the Water riff only has four notes (unless you want to double it up with the fifth in which case it's 8 (or 7 at a push).

Yes, Dave, thank you.

I located the back No.s 4254-58 on ebay.. Seems to be the Reeve eight day regulator clock rather than musical. I don't believe there are striking or chiming mechanisms in this clock. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Best, Richard

No correction necessary Richard, it is indeed the regulator clock.
