Sieg C6, Grizzly G0516, Hare & Forbes AL-60 Metal Lathe Modifications

Known as the Sieg C6 or the Grizzly G0516 or the Hare & Forbes AL-60 metal lathe. A look at some of the mods that I have done on this 10x22 lathe.

Hi Blue Heeler, I also have a Sieg C6, about 3 years old now, very happy with it so far. Could you tell me how you made your carriage lock please as that is something I would like to add to mine.

Thanks.

Excellent Blue,

Simple, uncomplicated, low cost mods which have made the lathe much more user friendly, great stuff.

I turned up the steel part that you can see and used a button die to thread it (sorry off the top of my head I can't remember what size metric thread it was) then screwed it in where the factory hex head bolt is. Tightened it up with some vice grip pliers protecting the steel with some offcut copper sheet.
When it locked down the carriage I marked the place with a small punch where it was the place to drill for the handle.
Then unscrewed the piece and drilled it for the handle, wound the steel part back in and THEN put the handle in. This way you'll have it set just right so when you lock the carriage it will be in correct place.
You'll never look back at using the old hex method again!

Yes, I’ve been using one of those on my lathe for years. I’ve seen many mods to convert these tailstocks to lever lock but I can’t be bothered! smiley
