![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | There is a clue under the thread title. As you look to be building a loco from MJ Eng drawings have you asked Alan if he does a rolled and welded smokebox, got the one for my traction engine from him. He does seem to list one here if it is for that loco.

798 forum posts 27 photos | Er...... I think the clue is in the title?! 6 1/2" OD by 6.00 ID (I think with my limited maths that's about 1/8" wall thickness) and given its a smokebox probably 4 - 5" long, it's not going to be that long anyway. I would assume the exact material is immaterial but non ferrous probably best for a corrosion point of view. If you got a piece of 1/8" copper plate it shouldn't be too hard to roll it round a former if it's well annealed. Sorry don't have any suggestions for a piece of tube though. Oops Jason beat me too it! If it's a traction engine then agree with Jason, steel would be best, more possibilities for supply too, I got a piece of 13" OD pipeline tube for mine and turned it down to 12 5/8". Paul. 40 forum posts 9 photos | Hi Jason, Yes MJ. list one but they can no longer supply? Paul, Yes it's supposed to be 10G. The Smokebox is 10.3/16" long. I have a 6.25 OD. Copper tube but it has a few dints in it that I mighthave to work around if I cannot find an Imperal tube supplier. My friendly neighberhood fabricating shop has rolls but cannot get down to 6" ID. ![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | Colin, if you are in MJ's part of the world try these people who do some good rolling work and will weld the ring too. They would roll it out of 3mm material. Failing that M-Machine do 165mm OD thick wall steel seamless that could be turned down. |

40 forum posts 9 photos | Thanks for that Jason. i am not in MJs area but iwill try them. My lathe won't entertain 165mm, I can get it in but I cannot turn as the saddle won't pass underneath the Tube. Colin |
