Anyone had any success with one of these? I've had one for 20+ years. My first attempts produced drills with a negative clearance behind the cutting edge. No matter what I did (or friends who tried) it would not grind the correct clearance. I contacted the suppliers who replaced it with another. Unfortunately just the same results.

I really should have asked for a refund at that time, instead it was placed on a shelf in the workshop and forgotten about. That is until a recent thread on this forum reminded about it. So had another go, same results.

So, what am I doing wrong, any ideas?

I've now looked at several forums on this subject, some say they work well, others have had the same experience as me. The fact they can work makes me think its me rather than the machine, surely not a manufacturing fault?

In the intervening years I used a Draper attachment on a bench grinder, cheap and nasty but worked well! The I bought a drill grinder similar to Warco's, a super piece of kit!

I've had exactly the same experience with mine, and as a result it's now been under the bench for years. According to the manufacturer's video it should be dead easy to get good results every time but I've never managed it; always produced negative clearance.

Any clues would be a great help.

Sorry to go off topic but why do we not send something back or chuck it, but instead put it on a shelf or under a bench in case it miraculously heals itself if left alone. I am in the midst of a clearout and one dump run bootfull was items just like these.

I think I am just too stubborn to admit defeat!

OK guys sorry for the rant - back on topic now.

Nick, that's exactly the problem - none of us like to admit defeat and as engineers we like to think that we can resolve the problems! So far no good on this one

Yes I have one and it works fine.

just follow the instructions until you get used to it and way you go....

there are lots of settings to adjust but it is simple to use.

Must be the time of year, all I have done so far this year is to tidy up the workshop, a couple of bootfulls ready to go to the dump and only half way round the workshop, still got the locos to clean up after the New Year’s Day run but so much stuff on benches being sorted there’s nowhere to put the engines!
