I have long been an admirer of Kozo Hiraoka and his books that describe building various American logging (mostly) engines in 3/4" scale. Even though I don't build in that scale myself, there is much within them of interest to any model locomotive engineer - and the drawings and descriptions of his engine designs are in a league of their own in my view.

I was therefore very pleased to come across an extensive photo-log of a G1 build of Kozos' 'New Shay' that is full of interesting detail and information to any 'Hiraoka' enthusiast. Ed Hume (the loco builder) is clearly a very talented engineer and has made an excellent record of his fine work.

I thought others might enjoy looking through it too.

Watchmaking to me! Absolutely stunning workmanship, my eyesight and 'fat' fingers keep me away from stuff that size! I can only look in awe at the intricacy and inginuity that went into building that.

Paul.

That is an amazing achievement! What a work of art.

Ed can be really proud of that.

His workmanship is unbelievable!

Thanks for the inspiration Ian.

I can't even approach that sort of standard, I'm going to take up crochet or knitting!
