Hello Jon and welcome. I'm just down the road from you near Mansfield.

What will your Raglan be used for when it's working again?

Hello Jon, also from Sheffield, though in the process of a very slow move from Crookes to Buxton.

(For those not familiar with Sheffield, I should point out the Capital C and the e in Crookes wink )

Hi Jon,

Looks like you have plenty of help, right on your doorstep ! Lucky you,not like these parts, where they ask you "What is a lathe"?

Make the most of it and good luck with the rebuild.

Hello Jon,

A Raglan 5" was my first 'proper' lathe, much better than a Myford in my view. An easy machine to strip/reassemble and very capable especially if you can acquire some of the original accessories.Take some time to set up the variable speed mechanism accurately and it'll run very nicely. I had mine for many years until I replaced it with an M300. A guy John Ward, up your way makes some (good quality) parts for Raglans.

Hello again Jon, sadly don't come to Buxton for (decent) tools . The market is a shadow of its former self but a good friend of mine is working hard at reviving it.
The local discount shop has a few gems, but I normally shop for specialist stuff in Sheffield, and I'm on good terms with the Post office staff and most of the couriers round our way.

Still looking for a handy metals supplier locally in Derbyshire, though the local scrapyards are friendly enough

Any assistance I can offer, just shout up.

Bill
