Sand casting

The article by Andy Clark was the most useful I have read in a long while. Using his advice I also progressed from useless results to results perfect for my needs. The main change I made was to forget green sand and use oil sand instead. The only problem was that he did not specify what he meant by oil sand. Fortunately my first trials gave perfect results based on children's play sand with 1% linseed oil mixed in. Then 3% dextrin was mixed with 3% water and this mixed with the sand. (All proportions by weight) After making the moulds I baked them at 200'C for about 2 hours. The process could maybe be optimised but I am happy as is.

Thanks for the feedback Eckart.

It is always great to hear an article has encouraged someone to try something new.

Any chance of getting Graham Gardner to do a more detailed account of casting in MEW. It is obvious he has a lot of knowledge to pass on.

Thanks

Rich

Two different articles being talked about here, Graham's was in ME and very good if a bit short and the castings looked a lot better than the ones in Andy's article which was in MEW

I recall Andy was quite clear that he was offering a beginner's perspective.

Happy to see an article from a more experienced foundry!
