Hi all,

I have just completed refurbishing the gearbox on my Bantam lathe. Several of the bushes were worn making the gearbox really noisy at full speed. After stripping it down and sizing the bearings and bushes I ordered them all from Simply Bearings. A couple of them were ok and did not need replacing. The large flange bushes were a bit longer than needed so had to be shortened and the flange was larger than required and turned down to suit. Its a fiddly job to do but if anyone else is keen enough to go for it the list of parts I used is here:

1 x AJ0812-08 Oil Filled Bronze Flanged Bush 1/2x3/4x1/2 inch (AJ.0812-08.FL) = £3.65
Pack Size Pack of 1
2 x AJ1822-24 Oil Filled Bronze Flanged Bush 1-1/8x1-3/8x1-1/2 inch (AJ.1822-24.FL) = £18.02
Pack Size Pack of 1
1 x AI2024-24 Oil Filled Bronze Plain Bush 1-1/4x1-1/2x1-1/2 inch (AI.2024-24.PL) = £8.27
Pack Size Pack of 1
3 x AI1012-10 Oil Filled Bronze Plain Bush 5/8x3/4x5/8 inch (AI.1012-10.PL) = £9.45
Pack Size Pack of 1
1 x AI1822-12 Oil Filled Bronze Plain Bush 1-1/8x1-3/8x3/4 inch (AI.1822-12.PL) = £5.95
Pack Size Pack of 1
1 x AI1214-08 Oil Filled Bronze Plain Bush 3/4x7/8x1/2 inch (AI.1214-08.PL) = £3.27
Pack Size Pack of 1
1 x AI1216-16 Oil Filled Bronze Plain Bush 3/4x1x1 inch (AI.1216-16.PL) = £4.79
Pack Size Pack of 1
1 x AI1416-16 Oil Filled Bronze Plain Bush 7/8x1x1 inch (AI.1416-16.PL) = £4.17
Pack Size Pack of 1
1 x AI1214-16 Oil Filled Bronze Plain Bush 3/4x7/8x1 inch (AI.1214-16.PL) = £3.83
Pack Size Pack of 1
1 x AI1214-14 Oil Filled Bronze Plain Bush 3/4x7/8x7/8 inch (AI.1214-14.PL) = £3.65
Pack Size Pack of 1
2 x BA188ZOH Imperial Needle Roller Bearing 1-1/8x1-3/8x1/2 inch (BA.188.ZOH) = £8.04

Also remembering to replace the gearbox plug before trying to fill it with oil helps....

Hi Ian, did replacing those parts result in a much quieter machine at high speed. ?

Emgee, I only ran it at full speed for a few seconds last night but it was definitely quieter. Left it running for a while last night at slow speed to run it in a bit and will do it again tonight.
