I was pleased to receive a short acknowledgement on p43

For the benefit of anyone who is interested ...

The patent, GB661824 (A), can be found here: **LINK**

... and it surely a novel use of case-hardening.

.

The 'Tension Files' were originally available in three grades: **LINK**

.

... and does anyone else remember the plastic-handled round files, which could be bent to shape ?

MichaelG.

.

P.S. To the best of my knowledge, genuine ABRAFILES have not been manufactured for several years, so any on the market will be 'old stock'.

Likewise, my genuine Abrafiles gave up the ghost years ago. But I've since used these Vitrex saw blades with reasonable success in my (powerful) scroll saw:-

Just like that, Pete yes

Very useful on occasions, but I always wondered how they achieved both 'bendability' and file characteristics.

... the patent explains that.

Michael,

I found some at RS maybe 25 years ago, described as flexible round files. Checking their website they are now listed as discontinued so I had better make my two last a bit longer. Such useful things

They had blue handles. Item 546-685 was described at 3 mm diameter and it's mate 546-691 was listed as 4.5 mm diameter

I had hoped they were still available but sadly not

Regards Brian

Found a nest of them nice files in a cupboard at work the other day and the boss said chuck them so I did, right into the red wheelie bin that I drive to work in smiley, they should last me out.
