The 1 1/2" Allchin will pull a driver and is popular. Castings etc. readily available, (Reeves). The building description by W J Hughes is very comprehensive in ME back issues and book form. It's a detailed model, plenty of work in it, but attractive when complete.

Just to add, the hind wheels are 9" diameter, to be within the scope of a Myford lathe

If you just want to pull a driver and do not want anything too big to handle, then a 2 inch scale Durham and North Yorkshire would be my suggestion but a two inch Minnie is also worth considering.

If the Allchin is on the short list then ebay listing 112811885728 may be worth a look,

Castings etc plus a Western Steam Boiler at £2500 or offer,

The casting set from Reeves is £1600 which puts the boiler at £900 which sounds good on face value.

A 2" scale Durham and North Yorkshire is a powerful engine and worth looking at, I built mine some years back as a first engine build, which took me three years to build. I had a lot of pleasure driving that engine

I am in the process of building a PYRTE. Instructions are about £ 25-00 - no drawings which is a bit of a pain but loads of pictures on the PYRTE Yahoo forum. There is a couple of youtube videos of them & one does not have to buy castings . It can look as good or amateurish as one wants. I have done nearly everything apart from the boiler & it has been a great learning curve. When I finally finish this I will do another to prove I can make a good job. Next one will look really good & take a lot less time to make
