Hi Peter I know nothing about nothing about this make but in the past I came across a Bridgeport with a similar symptom. It had worn through the bronze thread in the nut and needed to be replaced, just cut one on the lathe copying the basic dimensions from the old one and cut the internal thread. It needs to be a little loose in this position as it only holds the weight.

Hi Peter I have looked and found a couple of manuals and parts lists on the web and it seems that it was made in Italy. Not found a lot else of any help.
