I am about to fit glass scale DRO's to my WM250. The recommended position obscures the saddle lock cap head screw. Has anyone else fitted DRO's and either retained the saddle lock or done something else?

Thanks in advance

Dave

Dave, I have the WM250 but no DRO yet. When I first got the lathe I fitted an "improved" saddle lock. This moves the clamping action from the cap head screw near the cross-slide to one of the out board screws which is replaced with a small lever. It may be enough space for a slim-line DRO. Details on my website *** Journeyman's Workshop ***    hope this helps. (It is quite an old version of the lathe so I don't know if all the screws are in the same locations on the more modern WM250)

Hi Dave, I did fit a Warco DRO scale to the saddle on my WM250VF but have since removed it and am planning to fit it to the front of the saddle. It does restrict the use of the saddle lock allen bolt depending on where the cross slide is. The scale fitting also restricts the full use of the tail stock which was the main reason for removing the DRO scale from the saddle. Other than that I found the DRO very accurate on WM250. Hope this helps.

Cheers the noo

John.

I have a 290 equivalent (SPG ) and fitted scales to mine, I moved the saddle lock to the opposite side of the saddle.....Been ok for me...

I'd post a picture but my lathe is 150 miles away at my other house...at the moment till I shift it.
