What sort/shape should a cutter be boring out a copper coated bush in a milling machine. Was going to use a piece of 6mm hss.

.

When you say coated. How thick is the coating and what is the base material under the coating.?

I ask this as if it's not a very thick coating you may be able to get under it in the first pass.

Are you also sure the bush is copper.?

Nick

And, following on from Nick's post, are you sure it isn't an oilite bush?

It's a copper coated small end bush. I assume it'll be steel. Only got to remove about 0.4mm

What size is the bore as that will determine what sort of tools will fit down the hole.

Do you have a boring head?

50mm bore by about 50mm deep. Yeah a vertex adjustable boring head which has 18mm holes

Piece of 18mm bar drilled across at the end to take your 6mm HSS toolbit and then cross drilled for a grub screw say M5 to retain the bit. Should be nice and rigid which will help keep the bore parallel.

Is it a Glacier bush, or whatever they call themselves these days. They make steel backed bushes with various bearing materials. If it is then it can be pushed out and a replacement fitted, no matching necessary.
