Does anyone know where I can get a manual for this Dro?

286 forum posts 36 photos | I fitted a Sino SDS-2MS Dro to my mill last year. It's been very reliable and accurate, but I am having problems setting up the pcd hole pattern function. The Dro was supplied by Machine DRO, but came with a manual for a later model, SDS6. I was assured that this manual also covered the SDS2, but I have found that while most of the functions are the same, the data entry steps for some functions such as pcd don't work. Now I guess this could be a hardware fault, but before I go down that route I want to be quite sure I am following the correct set up steps for this model dro. Machine DRO can't supply the correct manual for some reason, and I've got nowhere trying to communicate with the manufacturer. Does anyone know of a source of the correct manual, or if you have such a manual would you be willing to copy some pages for me? Thanks |

286 forum posts 36 photos | Jason I should have explained the problem more clearly. It's not to do with the number of holes. The problem occurs when I try to enter the pitch circle diameter after entering the centre coordinates. The data usually displays with the decimal point in the wrong place, and I can see no way to edit. If I come out of pcd mode and start again it sometimes works correctly! I was hoping that the correct manual might show some step I am missing. |

3630 forum posts 128 photos | Mike On my Sino SDS2MS the PCD and other advanced functions only work properly in metric units. Some of the toys went from pram to, probably, geostationary orbit during the learning process until I twigged this! Machine-DRO, or rather Allendale as they then were sent me their revised and translated version of the manual which was great improvement on the Chinglish but still not completely clear in places. Especially the PCD function. Plenty good enough for remind-me use when you've not used it for a while but not the best at expelling from nothing. Clive. |

286 forum posts 36 photos | Ian. I can't see how the polarity of the axes would affect the particular problem I'm having, but thanks for the suggestion. Bob/Clive I've gone through the videos and tried operating in metric mode only, but still get funnies. Some progress though. Let me go through the steps and maybe you can explain what's happening. - I move the table to the centre of the hole pattern and zero both axes - I select pcd mode. X and y displays show 0.00, and other display shows CNTR POS - I press enter and down arrow. Displays show last entered diameter, and DIA - I enter, say, 10.0 for the required pattern diameter, expecting to overwrite the stored value, but the display shows 0.1, then 0.00 when I press enter ! This was where I was previously getting stuck. However, I have just found that if I press enter again, then 10.0 followed by enter everything works correctly. I don't understand, but this sequence seems to work reliably every time. Any suggestions? |

Ian. I can't see how the polarity of the axes would affect the particular problem I'm having, Any suggestions? Everything should just work, but consider that it's all software in there and it was written by people and you know what people are like |

286 forum posts 36 photos | Bob I have no problems if I use the stored diameter value. The problem is when I try to overwrite it with a new value.

3630 forum posts 128 photos | Interesting. Mine doesn't retain any data after leaving the PCD routine. Always comes back with all zeros for most data calls except for diameter which merely show just a decimal point dot while waiting for new data. Think you can go round again if you don't leave the routine but its ages since I last did more than one off on a PCD job. As I recall matters editing data has always been a bit problematic so my habit is to exit the PCD routine and start over. No idea if thats really necessary but its what I found works so am not going to fix it. Mine is quite old tho' maybe 2005, 2006 vintage so no doubt the bits behind the panel have changed over the years. Clive. |

129 forum posts 13 photos | Hello Mike I wonder if you were to resolve the this issue with your SDS2MS ? I have been having the exact same issue with mine. I have had it for many years but recently decided to try and put it to greater use and like you when I tried to carry PCD function my problems started. Like you Allendale sent me the SDS 6 manual but this was of no help. I am talking to Allendale but so far they have not been able to offer a solution. Kind regards

286 forum posts 36 photos | Alan Yes, I did sort it out. What I found was that when you enter the PCD Function and the CT POS display comes up you MUST enter values for X and Y, even if they are both zero and the display is already showing zero. You can’t just press enter and move on to the next setting. To be fair it does show this in the manual (steps 3 and 4 in the version I have), but it wasn’t clear - to me at least - that you need to enter zero if the display is already showing zero. Hope this works for you too. Mike |
