Hi everyone, Can any one advise ? Rather than mix with water, silver solder flux, is there a ready mixed paste available. If so where I might get it would be helpful.

07/11/2021 13:13:24

Hello everyone, i have obtained a few plastic syringes containing coloured pastes. I assume they are "grinding / lapping" pastes. each one has a number on it ranging from 0.5 - 40, could anyone tell me what these numbers indicate ?

Ah, I see Jason, you know I looked at this and had brain fog, it's an age thing.

Many thanks

Good morning everyone,

Well, here I go again.

This I hope is the last query I have with regards the plan ? The plan shows each carb body having two 8ba holes drilled, again I cannot see what they are for, and like the mountings plates previous any advice would be gratefully received. I will post pics soon of the carb build if of interest. Thank you all in anticipation.

Got the stove paint Jason, thanks,

20/06/2021 14:18:11

Hi Jason,

Thought about that, but on the assumption that it will run !!!!! I was concerned that the paint would peel off due to heat,

However I was thinking about using a car / motorcycle exhaust paint which I assume would be more resistant,

If anyone has other alternative ideas ?

20210620_095613.jpg20210620_095538.jpgHi Guys, Thought I would post a few photos of the Vega progress. I struggled with making the exhausts so trip to B&Q and a visit to the plumbing section got me a couple of these 22mm copper end caps. I took each cap and drilled the 1/4" holes either end. I then cut one cap down to give me the required length as per the plan. I joined the halves together using a nut and bolt and silver solder together. Not as elegant perhaps but maybe a wee pollish will help.20210620_095503.jpg

Hi Buffer,

You know it genuinely never occurred to me to do this ! I am attempting the carbs at the moment and if it would be of interest I would be pleased to post a few photos. This build has been (almost) a death by a thousand cuts. but I would be pleased to offer any advice on the build to anyone undertaking this project.

Good morning chaps

This question is really directed at any one who has built this engine. I am slowly but surely working through the construction of my Vega Twin. When I first got the plans I noticed that there was described on the plan "Mounting Plates". measuring 3" x 1.5" x 1/8 with two 2 BA tapped holes 0,375 apart in the centre. There is also shown two cut outs either end of the plate. For the life of me I cannot see what this plate is used for or where it goes. It is probably staring me in the face but any help from Vega builders would be appreciated.

Thread: Sine bar

Thanks Guys, Very useful and constantly learning

05/06/2021 08:50:07

Hi Guys. I have aquired a set of Imperial Gauge Blocks but I need a Sine Bar. I would like the conventional 5" bar. There are a few on the net but some of them are giving a measurement of 125 mm which is less than the 5".( but is being advertised as 5 " This would I think give inaccurate readings but I am not sure, any advice would be helpful.

Thanks Lads, Good advice.

Morning folks, I need some advice: I am presently making the valves for my Vega Twin. The plan recommends making in one piece from Stainless steel I have some 8mm rod which is perfect, my trouble is trying to get a good finish on the stem? ( issue one), however I am contemplating making the valves from 3/32 silver steel and brazing the actual valve head made from SS, could anyone tell me if this is a good idea or helping me get a really smooth finish on the one piece valve. I am using an 8mm collet and cutting a 1/4" at a time and extending the rod through the collet thereby minimising any taper.
