Does anyone have or know where I can obtain information about a Ward 2C capstan lathe?

In particular, how does a Ward 2C differ from a Ward 2A

The Ward 2C was the upgraded more modern version of the Ward 2A I believe

Information on them is pretty hard to find, have you gone and bought one? got any piccies?

.

A friend of mine has 5 capstans in his workshop. They are a mixture of Herberts and Wards. I will see if any are a 2C and if he has a manual for it as I know he has a filing cabinet full of manuals for different machines.

Thanks Ady and Nick,

Yes I have bought one, notionally to make some of the parts for a small range of vintage and veteran motorcycle fittings that I make.In reality more for the fun of using it and to save such a lovely bit of gear from being scrapped.

It is marked B.O.C. (British Oxygen Co.) and I surmise they were the original owners and the machine was sold new here in Australia.

As far as I can tell from the literature I have it seems to have some of the features, but maybe not all, of a 2DS which is reasonably well known.

All my engineering knowledge is self-taught so I have to sort out the features as I go and the correct manual would be a big help.

I will take some photos but I then have to master how to get them on the forum - I have only done this before by using photobucket - which appears to have just about kicked the bucket for any use that I might have!

Regards, Chas

Hi Chas, don't know if this is of any help, but here is a scan of a 2A data sheet.

Hi to all,

Following the link provided by Neil and Nicholas, herewith photos of my lathe (hopefully!)

The left hand end of the lathe seems the same as a Ward 2DS but the capstan end seems to me to be the same as a Ward 2A. This post has not come out exactly as I hoped but practice should make perfect.

Regards, Chas
