![]() 984 forum posts 207 photos | Having enjoyed the forum and received a lot of help I thought it only right that I now subscribe. For me the digital subscription is the way to go. Apart from the digital mag what other benefits are there to subscribing? What about access to digital back issues? If I change me mind and decide I also want the printed mag can I upgrade? Only available while your sub is current. You will also get a few "subscriber only " articles etc. J |

![]() 963 forum posts 2 photos | Although subscribing is the 'modern way' I have resisted subscribing out of sympathy for my local newsagent. Apart from the fact that every reserved magazine is carefully stored and labelled with my name on it, one gets to browse the shelves for other interesting publications. Actually, when I walk in about monthly the ladies recognise me and automatically pull out my current orders. This is not a small town (Albury/Wodonga, about 90,000+ people) so the personal service and the smiles are worth the trip into town as far as I am concerned. I do not know if the rest of you have a local newsagent and I understand the business model of cutting out the middle man to maximise profits but consider that if the title is not available on the shelf for casual browsers then you risk preaching to the converted without recruiting the next generation. I actually worry about the job security of my local newsagents. So sorry Neil, no subscriptions from this little black duck (+ I have read about the sub's trauma whinges from too many bleaters on this forum). It's still a great place to visit and gain heaps of good tips though * Danny M * |

A high percentage of subscriptions over 'casual' purchases (I know some people have a regular order) is a sign of a loyal and reliable reader base, rather than being about maximising profit. After the cost of serving a subscription the costs are about the same (distribution costs of copies sold through newsagents are much lower, and none of the overheads of supporting a subscriber base). Interestingly, I have been told that ME and MEW's proportion of readers who are subscribers is one of the highest in the UK, also our over-the counter sales have grown against a background of reducing sales of magazines by newsagents. So we must be doing something right. Neil

I thought over-the-counter and newsagents were part of the same thing? Michael W |

I thought over-the-counter and newsagents were part of the same thing? Michael W Sorry, our sales are going up while the overall trend is down, as many magazines are hit by t'interweb. Neil |

![]() 2052 forum posts 56 photos | It would be interesting to see just how many start looking into M.E.W/M.E on the basis of the magazine, as once you become a subscriber then clearly you would stop buying it over the counter. I used to buy mine from the shop on a regular basis but have since become a subscriber, as it was becoming clear that I would find at least something of interest in each magazine. Michael W |
