Anyone know who is still supplying the Gear Hobbing castings?

Castings for a modified version are produced in the USA. Somewhere on this forum I gave details on a hobber related thread.

When I spoke to CES a few months ago they were out of stock for these castings as well as the slotting adaptor. Whether or not that situation has changed, I suggest, should be checked with a phone call.

Last year we ran a series in MEW for a fabricated machine along the same lines 'Gearcutter'.

Could you tell me which issues and are they still available?

Six MEW Issues 244 August to 249 December. They all appear to be available here:

mags-uk.com/browse-by-title/model-engineers-workshop.html

Don't forget you need 246 Autumn as well as all the months.

An addendum on cutter making will appear in a few issues time.

The series only describes using it with a parallel hob but as far as I can judge all the parts for using it with a conventional spiral hob are there.

I have asked a Jacob's authority to write an article for beginners as none of the several series about these has gone into basic use of the machine in detail 9although a few have gone into advanced use of it!)

In the next MEW is the first part of a series on using differential gears for advanced gear cutting.
