How do you hold thread wires in place? Drove me nuts.

Arc Euro have them for a reasonable price, but I have never really used them as I cannot get the hang of holding in place.

In the absence of professional wire-holding clips, try plasticene, (= modelling clay) or blue-tack (synthetic household adhesive used eg to stick posters on bedroom walls).

Or use left-over uncooked pastry.

Hope this helps

Tim

left over uncooked pastry really does not help, no. But blu-tack, yes. So whats the technique, stick 3 wires in like flower arranging? or can you stick the wires straight to the thread - without it adding to the measurement?

Thanks

As long as the wires are held roughly vertically, two one side and one the other side of the thread, the micrometer or caliper will draw them accurately in line as you measure.

And you can stick the wires to the thread as long as the 'glue' is fairly soft. Again, as you put pressure on with a mike or caliper, the wires will align and any spare glue will be pushed out.

Cheers, Tim

Arc do a set with holders, look for the set in the square box instead of the wallet, but looks like both sets are out of stock at the moment.

Mt Swali could we have an update please ?

Here's a couple of Plasticene-based tips from the late Cliff Bower:

The picture really only illustrates Tim Stevens' post; the knack of holding and operating the mic with one hand is likely to be helpful.

CB also pointed out the value of Plasticene in cleaning out blind tapped holes.

Actually, they were two weeks late. They were in a container on this vessel which lost 43 containers overboard due to stormy weather. We were lucky.

Now back in stock.

Use O-vee gauges, same principle but stay in place on their own.
