So I have had a couple of previous attempts at constructing a steam loco "Tich" which after numerous year was sold just about started I then decided that I still needed to build a loco so requested Simplex frames etc. for a Christmas present so now I need the construction article. Does anyone have a copy that I can either download of hard copy happy to pay costs. Or can some one point me in the direction to download a copy.

I also have a small vertical engine to rebuild that my late grandfather built many many moons ago

Regards

Ian

Just enter "Building Simplex Locomotive" into your browser. Lots of information is available. Many years ago a friend of mine built one - it went very well and he allowed me to drive it sometimes - good fun!

Hi Ian,

The original Simplex book commands, and seems to get, silly money. There are currently two on Amazon, one at £110 and one at £59.99, or from across the pond one at $95.00.

May I suggest trying Blackgates (usual disclaimer) where photocopies of the original construction series are available for the much more realistic price of £6 + Vat and p&p!

The photocopies are A4 and in my opinion far easier to read than the original book. I put them in clear folder inserts in a ring binder where they are protected from greasy fingers and they don't fall apart like the original book.
