Hello, I need some help figuring out the wiring connections for a single phase Invensys Brook Crompton motor I removed a while ago from my Myford Super Seven lathe and replaced it with a Newton Tesla frequency drive. I did not make notes of the wiring upon removal and did not keep the old switch gear. I want to run the motor in one direction only without reverse of direction. The motor has a capacitor and start and run windings. Being not well versed in electrical matters, I wonder if one of this sites model engineers know how to wire it to run in one direction only and what additional switch gear may be needed. The above picture shows the terminal board and terminals, and the terminal markings. In its original application, the motor had four leads attached to the terminals as shown in the picture. I would be very grateful for advise. Thanks. Peter J. |

![]() 686 forum posts 18 photos | As this has been here unanswered for a day or so I'll throw in my two-penny-worth. I believe it to be a conventional single phase motor with centrifugal switch in the start winding circuit. For your purpose you'll need to identify the "ends" of the two windings with a continuity tester. One that is done all you need to is wire the two windings in parallel. The supply should be switched in the live. If the motor starts in the wrong direction simply reverse the connections of one of the two windings. I hope that helps. |

Have not done Brian's recommendation, have to get a suitable tester first. Hope to get more feed back from fellow model engineers with knowledge of this particular motors wiring. 5 forum posts 5 photos | Gentlemen, I figured my wiring out and it is as follows: Power L connects to U2 and connects to R Power N connects to U1 and connects to S On / off switch implemented in power L feed wire. In this configuration, the motor runs as intended in one direction only without reversing of direction. Thanks. Peter J. |

893 forum posts | I hadn't saw request until today, anyway you have sorted it yourself, I bet you feel 10 feet tall now. If you need forward and reverse you need to exchange the positions of R & S, leaving U1 & U2 where they are. Pleased to see that important Green and Yellow cable John |

I believe I only added about 6 inches to my 6 foot 2 inch frame. Thanks for your info, it will be useful when I may change the motor direction down the road in future. Peter J. |

32 forum posts | Hello everyone, Just a quick word to say "Thank-you" to all the contributors on this thread-------- I know it's a wee bit late ( 4 years and 1 month ) but I have just had exactly the same problem as ICEpeter and can now use this info to re-wire my Boxford........Just for interest sake but the Tech. guy at Brook Crompton was baffled...More power to the Forum !! 893 forum posts | Out of interest, about a year or two ago a friend had a Brook Crompton Motor, capacitor start and capacitor run with an unusual centrifugal switching arrangement, he asked if I had a copy of original circuit diagram. We had the motor on his bench, he rang Tyco at Doncaster which is now owners of Brook Crompton and who are apparently owned by a company in China. On the phone the 'Tec' said that's not one our motors mate, in spite of what the name plate said, we couldn't believe it. Within the hour, some else phoned and asked had we sorted to motor and could they have a copy of the circuit diagram. John |
