I've decided to make a serious foray into the locomotive world, with this 3 1/2" Rob Roy that I have recently acquired.

As can be seen from the photos, it is not quite standard, with the addition of a pair of trailing wheels and a Drummond-like front end.

This part built loco has been through several hands before coming to me. Most of the plate work has been started and all is to a nice standard. But does anybody know what the original builder of this engine was trying to model?

Cheers,

Rod

Hi Rod,

You have a nice chassis there.

I can only assume the original builder decided to fit a larger coal bunker plus additional water underneath.

There is no fullsize prototype that accords with this variation.

When you get to the Rob Roy boiler PM me as have a few suggestions for improvements etc.

Cheers,

Julian

I've fiddled around with the eccentrics and managed to get the chassis to run using my little airbrush compressor:

Now there's a boiler to build with this flanged kit from Blackgates

OK, but apart from that blush

I obviously got a bit over-excited.
