I'm editing an article and the author reports having problems with horizontal, rather than vertical, capacitative ('Chinese' scales using compuguide.

This seems odd to me as both types use the same data protocol and I wonder if they were just unlucky?

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Neil

Strange, I have no trouble finding it, it is Compucut's 'guided manual' system.

www.compucutters.co.uk/accessories/compuguide/compuguideDRO01.html

They are supposed to work with the usual 'chinese scales' but the author couldn't get them to work.

Hasn't anyone here ever used one?

Neil

Hi Neil,
Thanks for the quick reply. This is the first information I have seen on this product so I can't offer any help. One question I would ask is in the test was it just one sample of each scale or was it several samples. Since the original 2 x 24 bit protocol scales came out there are scales that use other protocols. BIN6, BCD7. There is also a variation in the timming of the BIN6 protocol from different suppliers. I can post you some details of the other protocols so the author can look at them on an oscilloscpe and see which protocol they look like.

There were a couple of articles by Richard Bartlett, in MEW 86 & 89

... There may be something relevant within.

I remember being intrigued by his 'Rodent Rules' but those connect direct to the PC.

If one scale works has the user changed leads over to each other to see if the scales still work the same or are reversed?

The scales worked normally when wired to off the shelf stand alone displays, possibly an example of things operating at the extremes of their tolerances?

I suspect it was just 'one of those things'.
